“I want to thank each of the sixty-six thousand people in attendance, who came to celebrate the founding of our great nation. Today is New Year’s Eve; we have many things to rejoice in the coming year!” Rosalina Vargas stated.

“In the last quarter of the year, crime has gone down by ninety percent; there has not been one incident of residential or commercial theft. The homeless is eradicated, and cities are now enjoying safe places for its citizens,” she said waiting for the applause to stop.

“Our greatest achievement isn’t known yet,” she announced, causing the crowd to quiet down. “As of today, we are no longer a part of the United States of America. We are now our sovereign nation called the Republic of Rainier, named after the largest mountain in our nation.”

The stadium shook with applause and screams. The large eighty-four-foot by twenty-four-foot screen showed people in the crowd screaming and hugging about the news of their separation of an oppressive government.

“As the president of our nation, I vow to protect everyone who wishes to abide by the laws. In closing, I would like to finish my speech with the final announcement so that the rogue Agent Toussaint Gibson knows he did not stop our progress.

Attention all Republic of Rainier residents, the Trammel Act is now in full effect. You are to report to your local Universal Identity Chip Injection sight.

Jacob walked towards the podium to assist the President to her seat. As she turned to accept his assistance, a red liquid splashed over her face from Jacob’s throat.

“President Vargas,” her security ran to her. “Get down.”

More men fell around her. She looked around the morbid scene and could not find the strength to move her body. She felt strong hands pull her down to the ground; she looked and saw that it was Alex Copeland, attempting to give her instructions.

“Rosa,” Alex shook her. “Can you hear me?”

She nod, not trusting her words to come out right.

“All right,” he said looking around frantically. “We need to get out of here. A sniper is trying to kill you.”

“Mr. Copeland!” a soldier yelled.

The soldier ran to them, followed by ten others, they successfully reached the duo and surrounded them.

“We have to get these two out of here now!” the lead soldier demanded.

“Jacob,” Rosalina finally found her words.

Alex shook his head, the amount of blood he lost was significant, and it was unlikely that someone could attend to him until it was safe.

“Where is Mr. Wheeling?” Alex asked.
